GodsView AI vs bilawalsidhu/gods-eye-view on GitHub

Launch live map

The open-source project github.com/bilawalsidhu/gods-eye-view—a photoreal Cesium globe tied to the God's Eye View series—runs on your machine with Pinokio or Node and optional API keys. GodsView AI is a separate hosted live map at godsviewai.com that is already running in your browser. Both explore public Earth data; they are different products from different teams.

What the GitHub project is

bilawalsidhu/gods-eye-view is MIT-licensed, local-first software built with CesiumJS. Maintainers include Bilawal Sidhu and Sameh Khamis at Halfpixel. Typical setup uses Pinokio or Node 24 with npm ci, then localhost. Photoreal 3D may need a Cesium ion token or Google Maps billing. Ships, fires, and voice features often require AISStream, NASA FIRMS, and OpenAI keys respectively. The README is thorough—and it assumes you will operate the stack yourself.

Search engines sometimes mix the names. If you want a link you can open immediately, a hosted site answers that need. If you want to fork and customize Cesium, the repository is the right starting point.

Hosted roadmap versus a live URL

The GitHub maintainers have described a future hosted offering for users who prefer not to self-host. A roadmap is not the same as today's URL. godsviewai.com is available now as an independent hosted map. We are not that repository and not Halfpixel.

The GitHub globe can excel at cinematic 3D when you invest in tokens and hardware. GodsView AI emphasizes time-to-first-track, AIS and FIRMS without visitor keys, a 2D desk, shareable links, and continuous hosting. Choose based on whether you need a forkable client or a ready URL.

Why the 2D desk matters

3D globes are excellent for context. They are harder for dense clicking and precise panning. GodsView AI defaults to a MapLibre operations map for questions like whether a flight is west of Ireland or AIS is dense in a strait. The globe remains one toggle away when you want the spherical view.

Layers for clear screenshots

On GodsView AI: Layers → All off → enable Aircraft for flights, Vessels for ships, or Earthquakes and Active Fires for hazards. Tutorial images follow the same rule so readers learn usable habits.

Cost and expectations

GodsView AI is free to explore with optional Premium. The GitHub software is free to clone; ion quotas, cloud APIs, and engineering time are not. Budget both money and setup hours when comparing options.

What we state clearly

We are not Halfpixel, not the YouTube production team, and not a classified feed. FIRMS is not an incident perimeter. We do not ship self-hosted GodsView AI. We operate a hosted public map for everyday geographic awareness.
