A Morning Brief Beats Opening Twelve Tabs
I used to open the map, the wires, a flight tab, and three papers. By the time I had a picture, the picture had moved. The brief is the opposite of that. One card. Morning, afternoon, evening. A score, a lede, six stories, a framed globe you can share without stealing a BBC thumbnail.
How I take it
I read the sentence. If it is about a market I do not trade and a strait I do not cover, I still glance at the map once. If the lede names a place on my desk, I open that story through GodsView so the preview stays ours, then I fly the globe.
The score is not a terror index. It is how busy the pile looks. 40 is a quiet Tuesday. 80 means the wires and the sensors are talking over each other. I do not plan my day around a number. I use it to decide whether to linger.
What it is not
- It is not a push from a newsroom with lawyers.
- It is not your local 80 km. That is the other box, On the map, once you set a place.
- It is not a reason to skip USGS or the fire agency.
If the brief is the only thing you open, you will still be less lost than a homepage with fifty headlines. If you open the globe after, you are using the product the way it was meant.
