What a Flash Flood Warning means

Flash flooding, a rapid rise of water within six hours of heavy rain, a dam failure or ice jam, is happening or about to happen. It is the most dangerous flood product.

What to do during a Flash Flood Warning

Get to higher ground now. Avoid creeks, low-water crossings and underpasses; six inches of moving water can knock you down and a foot can float a car.

Watch vs warning vs advisory

A watch means the ingredients are in place and the hazard is possible: be prepared. A warning means the hazard is happening, imminent or very likely: act now to protect life and property. An advisory is for less severe conditions that are still a nuisance or risky, and a statement is information that falls below those levels.

The companion product to the Flash Flood Warning is the Flood Watch, with 3 active now.
