What a Flood Warning means
Flooding is happening or imminent, typically a river rising above flood stage or prolonged flooding of an area. River flood warnings can last days.
What to do during a Flood Warning
Move to higher ground if told to, never drive or walk through flood water (turn around, don't drown), and follow local emergency instructions.
Watch vs warning vs advisory
A watch means the ingredients are in place and the hazard is possible: be prepared. A warning means the hazard is happening, imminent or very likely: act now to protect life and property. An advisory is for less severe conditions that are still a nuisance or risky, and a statement is information that falls below those levels.
The companion product to the Flood Warning is the Flood Watch, with 3 active now.
